Investigators identified and located the person who posted the item, but no charges were filed, police said.

Police in Warren County on Friday morning investigated a "vague reference to a school shooting" that was posted on social media, a police official said.

Investigators in Washington Township, Warren County, were able to figure out who posted the item, but the threat was "unfounded" and no one was arrested, said Lt. John Kaufmann.

He didn't immediately know where the person was from or the person's age. Washington Township covers the township, the borough of Washington and Oxford Township.

Warren County Community College falls within the township police coverage area, but Kaufmann said he knew of no connection between the threat and that school. Several public schools also are within that territory.

Because the threat was vague and didn't point to a specific school, there were no lockdowns, as far as Kaufmann said he knew.

Once made aware of the post, police had to investigate, even if it didn't result in charges, according to Kaufmann.

"In this day and age," police take such threats "very seriously," he said, adding he hoped to provide more information, including what social media platform was involved, later in the day.
