Driver was DWI and twice legal limit in N.J. crash, cops say

The vehicle left the road and struck a small tree, police said.

A drunken driver who was double the legal limit crashed into a tree in Washington Township, Warren County, police said.

Officers arrested Steven Bunelko, 55, of Clark, N.J.

Police said Bunelko shortly after 5:33 p.m. Jan. 16 lost control of his vehicle on East Asbury Anderson and New Hampton roads. He then struck a small tree, according to police.

Bunelko had a blood-alcohol content of 0.16 percent. The legal limit is 0.08 percent. He was not injured in the accident, police said.

Bunelko was charged with DWI and careless driving. He was processed and released with a pending court date.
