Man involved in shoplifting, chase indicted a second time

A Hampton man who was has already been indicted on weapons possession charges has now been indicted on charges of possession of an imitation firearm and making terroristic threats, according to Hunterdon County court documents.

FLEMINGTON - A Hampton man who was has already been indicted on weapons possession charges has now been indicted on charges of possession of an imitation firearm and making terroristic threats, according to court documents.

A Hunterdon County grand jury in late March indicted Matthew S. Johnson, 31, of Hampton, on charges of fourth-degree of possession of an imitation firearm for an unlawful purpose and third-degree terroristic threats. The incident happened on Dec. 11, 2016, in Hampton, according to court records.

It is alleged that Johnson used the imitation firearm to threaten a person stated only a G.S. in court documents.

Johnson was one of two men indicted on March 23 on charges of third-degree possession of methamphetamine, third-degree possession of alprazolam, third-degree unlawful possession of a handgun and fourth-degree resisting arrest, it was previously reported. They had reportedly shoplifting from Kohl's located off Route 202 in Raritan Township, police said.

The second man was indicted on March 23 was Darren Ader, 20, of Oxford. Ader was also indicted for fourth-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, it was reported.

Raritan Township Police, responding to Kohl's on Jan. 27, were told Johnson was seen running across Route 202 to a waiting vehicle being driven by Ader, according to police. Both attempted to flee, but were later arrested by Raritan Township and Flemington Borough police officers, police said.

Stolen items, drugs and a pellet gun were recovered from the vehicle, police said.

Ader had also been arrested and charged with weapon and drug possession in High Bridge in December, it was previously reported.

He was found with a BB gun without a valid firearms ID card in his possession, as well as 40 Xanex pills without a prescription, during a traffic stop, police said.

Johnson had previously been sentenced to three years in prison after being arrested in Indiana after leaving a probationary program, it was previously reported.

Originally sentenced to three years in 2012 after being convicted of assault and criminal mischief, he was released from state prison into the Intensive Supervision Program, fleeing from the program that July. He was arrested in October of 2013 in Indiana on drug distribution charges, it was reported.
