Warren Hills girls soccer team scored three goals in the second half to post a 3-0 home win over Middletown South on Monday afternoon in the first round of the NJSIAA North 2, Group 3 tournament.
Turning point: After a slow start, the seventh-seeded Blue Streaks picked it up and scored two goals in the first 11 minutes of the second half to take a 2-0 lead. Senior midfielder Lexi Rettino had the first goal off an assist from senior forward Rylie Howey with 33:41 left in regulation. Senior forward Katelyn Lauziere then put the Blue Streaks up 2-0 on a goal off a free kick from Andrea Egerer four minutes later.
Top performers: Lauziere finished with two goals after adding another one with 1:40 left in regulation. Howey had a pair of assists for the Blue Streaks, who set the program record for wins with their 14th of the season.
What it means: The Blue Streaks advance to Thursday's quarterfinals against either second-seeded Somerville or No. 15 Red Bank Regional. It is the first time in four years Warren Hills has made it out of the first round of the sectional tournament.
