Latest results of the June 6 primary election, with six Democrats and five Republicans seeking nominations in bid to succeed Gov. Chris Christie.

Polls across New Jersey officially closed at 8 p.m. Tuesday in a crowded primary election that will determine which Democrat and Republican will be on the November ballot for governor.

It's a packed field, with six Democrats and five Republicans each trying to secure a bid to represent their political party and succeed Gov. Chris Christie, who is serving the final year of his second -- and final -- term in office.

The Democratic frontrunner, Phil Murphy, is a former Goldman Sachs banking executive who has spent more than $18 million on his campaign -- nearly four times as much as all the other major-party candidates combined.

The Republican frontrunner. Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno, has held double-digit leads over her closest rivals in recent election polls.

Here are the unofficial results of the Democratic and Republican primary elections held across the state on Tuesday, compiled by the Associated Press. (Note: Vote totals are expected to start coming in about 8:15 p.m. and will be updated throughout the night, so refresh your page or return later to see the latest tallies.)

Rounding out the Democratic field are state Sen. Ray Lesniak, a veteran attorney from Union County who has served in the state Legislature since 1978; state Assemblyman John Wisniewski, a longtime attorney from Middlesex County and former chairman of the state Democratic Party; Bill Brennan, a community activist and former Teaneck firefighter; Jim Johnson, a former federal prosecutor and former U.S. treasury official, and Mark Zinna, a Tenafly councilman and owner of a data management company.

Also fighting for the GOP nomination are state Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli of Somerset County; Nutley Township Commissioner Steven Rogers; Ocean County businessman and actor Joseph Rullo, and aerospace and defense industry executive Hirsh Singh of Atlantic County.
