"$10,000 means a lot to a nonprofit," Barnyard Sanctuary said in an email to supporters.

The group is based out of a 15-acre farm in Knowlton and is looking to find a 100-acre space, according to its website. It rescues pet farm animals that lost their homes and tries to relocate them or keeps them on the farm.

Barnyard Sanctuary said the entry was submitted by Heather Daleo, whose story accompanying the contest photo says she adopted a number of animals from them.

"Everyone meet Sammy the smiling sheep! :) My family adopted Sammy and his sweet friend BamBam from the Barnyard Sanctuary in Columbia, NJ. They were rescued by a kind soul from their next destination, a meat market for Easter dinner. As you can see, they are incredibly adorable (and CUDDLY), and it was love at first sight. Sammy and BamBam fit in perfectly at the Daleo Farm, along with their horse, goat, cow, dog, cat, bunny, and piggy brothers and sisters. Every day on the farm is an adventure, and we are so blessed for each of the beautiful critters who have came into our lives. ... Thank you for all of your endeavors, and for providing countless abandoned farm animals a second chance at life...and love."

The description also mentions that Barnyard Sanctuary was in the news earlier this year for taking in more than 100 animals found in deplorable conditions in Independence Township.
